Katherine Cooksey
LA born, Katherine J Cooksey completed her B.F.A. from California State University of Bakersfield and received her M.F.A. from Pratt Institute in 2016. Katherine was diagnosed with an incurable visual eye disease at the age of twelve and has struggled seeing ever since. The struggle with sight especially academically led Katherine to pursue a career in the beauty industry. Over the years, she participated in pageants and modeling, winning several titles, her most recent is Miss New York World in 2015. All of these experiences inform Katherine’s art practice. She uses her insider and outsider perspective to question dominating physical ideologies. Katherine is currently living in Los Angeles and working as the Art Coordinator for the City of Santa Clarita.
